What is the educational philosophy of Sycamore Academy?
Our purpose is to provide an enriched and extended educational program through quality instruction in a varied and enriched learning environment that supports parents in teaching their children at home. Individual attention by the parents and Sycamore Academy teachers provides a firm foundation of basic skills for building a strong base for educational growth. Character development and spiritual instruction are also emphasized. We believe that the combination of parental support and Sycamore Academy’s professional guidance along with character development results in the most effective educational program.
What are the system requirements?
Internet access. A Windows-based, Linux-based, Apple computer or iPad may be used. The device must have a camera installed.
How does the online school work?
The online school is a web-based program that can be used with any Internet connection on any personal computer (PC) or Macintosh. No installation is required and a student can be ready to work immediately.
What grades are offered in the online school?
We currently offer grades 3 through 12.
What is the scope and sequence of the classes?
The Scope and Sequence is available upon request.
Does my student need to be connected to the internet during class time?
Yes, your student will be working on the internet during the live classes.
How will my student receive instruction for the live classes?
With Zoom technology the teachers have the ability to conduct virtual live classes with multiple students which creates a more engaged learning experience. Zoom is also used for one-on-one tutoring sessions.
Is all work done on the computer?
Most work is done on the computer, except for science experiments, literature books, and projects.
Can students work on materials at their own pace? What is the minimum enrollment period?
With our online school, students are able to work at their own pace with no minimum enrollment period.
When may my student enroll?
Students of any grade level including high school may enroll in the online school at any time during the year.
What kind of help will my student get online?
Our teachers work with your students monitoring their progress, addressing student concerns and questions, and making comments on student work. Students may call in to talk to a certified teacher during office hours or they can email their teachers.
What qualifications do Sycamore Academy's teachers have?
All teachers in our academy have either a Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. Highly qualified teachers personally review all work and reports.
How long does the student have to complete the curriculum?
Students have one year to complete the curriculum.
Who maintains my student's records?
Student files are kept in our office for progress reports. We will send for records from your child’s previous school, and upon request, send them on with your accumulated Sycamore Academy records as your child moves into another school environment.
Does the Sycamore Academy Online Program offer foreign language programs?
Spanish is available online. Other languages can be taken, but they are not taught in live classes.
What costs are involved in enrolling and tuition?

What if we need Legal Insurance?
A group plan with a discount group rate is provided through Home School Legal Defense Association. This organization provides support and legal aid when public personnel question your homeschooling. It is strongly recommended that you join this group although it is not required.
What about high school transcripts?
Upon graduation or transfer, Sycamore Academy will provide a transcript. This accredited transcript has been recognized by public and private schools, as well as colleges and universities around the world.
What extra services do you provide for high school students?
We will write letters of recommendation to your insurance for good student discount qualification.
We will help you obtain work permits.
We will supply high school students with our ID Code for proficiency tests and college exams.
Are you accredited?
Yes, Sycamore Academy is fully accredited by the AdvancED SACS CASI (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement).

How long have you been in business?
Sycamore Academy started in 1981 and incorporated in 1982. We were the first school and catalog in the world dedicated solely to homeschoolers.
